Where Asbestos is Found

Stephanie Wood

Asbestos is a naturally occurring chemical, which forms into crystals and can build up without being noticed very easily. This is why it is so dangerous, since people do not know that it is there, and are therefore not likely to realise if they start displaying symptoms of asbestos poisoning. It is therefore very important to be vigilant against the threat of asbestos poisoning, in order to ensure safety both for the self and for the family.

There are various places that asbestos can grow, without it being easy to spot. It is likely to be found in ceiling voids, inside the insulation of pipes, and in thermal installation (usually found in attics and lofts), as well as in roofing and ceiling tiles. Typically, it is anywhere where there are gaps, close to the walls and the outside of the building in question. Because the places where the asbestos crystal can be found are often common features and are used in most buildings, there is not a certain type of building where it is usually found. Rather, in the past in has commonly appeared in houses and schools, as well as factories and other places of work. Asbestos is used in industry quite a lot, because it has resident qualities that make it useful. The fact that it is resident to both fire and water, unlike a lot of other minerals, means that it can be much needed in certain industries. This means that it is more likely to be found in the building work in factories and other workplaces than in homes, although it has regularly been found in both. The need for asbestos to be used in industry is the reason why more and more former workers have been making a mesothelioma claim over the last few years, as they have often suffered from asbestos poisoning.

About the Author
In communal or rented buildings, asbestos workers will check regularly for its growth and will quickly remove any that is found. The owners or those in charge of communal buildings or workplaces are legally required to have these checks carried out. If they are not carried out and asbestos is present people are likely to be negatively affected by the exposure, and these leaves those in charge wide open to asbestos compensation claims.
